Art Poster – Corona Imperialis by Basil Besler (1600s)
Corona Imperialis is another name for Fritillaria imperialis, commonly known as the Crown Imperial. It is a striking ornamental plant native to the mountainous regions of Iran, Afghanistan, and the Himalayas.
Basilius Besler (1561–1629) was a German botanist, apothecary, and artist best known for his botanical masterpiece Hortus Eystettensis (1613). Commissioned by the Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt, the book features over 1,000 detailed engravings of plants, showcasing their beauty and scientific accuracy. Besler's work remains one of the most significant early botanical publications.
