Robert John Thornton (circa 1768–1837) was an English physician and botanical writer best known for his work The Temple of Flora (1799–1807). This lavishly illustrated book is considered one of the most beautiful botanical publications of the 19th century, featuring dramatic, large-scale flower prints. Thornton aimed to combine scientific accuracy with artistic beauty, making his work a landmark in botanical illustration.
