Sunflowers - Vincent van Gogh (The Munich version) 1888
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter known for his bold colors, expressive brushwork, and emotional depth. Though he struggled with mental health and gained little recognition during his lifetime, he went on to become one of the most influential artists in history. His most famous works include Starry Night, Sunflowers, and The Bedroom. Van Gogh created over 2,000 artworks, often inspired by nature, rural life, and personal experience.
In the warm summer of 1888, Van Gogh filled his studio in Arles with sunflowers — bold, golden, and full of life. He painted them to welcome his friend Paul Gauguin, hoping the flowers would brighten their shared space. To Van Gogh, sunflowers symbolized gratitude and joy. With thick, swirling brushstrokes and glowing yellows, he turned an ordinary flower into a timeless icon of warmth, beauty, and hope.
