Vincent Van Gogh, Self-Portrait (1887)
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter known for his bold colors, expressive brushwork, and emotional depth. Though he struggled with mental health and gained little recognition during his lifetime, he went on to become one of the most influential artists in history. His most famous works include Starry Night, Sunflowers, and The Bedroom. Van Gogh created over 2,000 artworks, often inspired by nature, rural life, and personal experience.
Vincent van Gogh painted over 30 self-portraits, not out of vanity, but out of necessity — models were expensive, and he was always available. Through bold colors and swirling brushstrokes, he captured not just his face, but his inner world. Each portrait is a window into his emotional state, making them some of the most powerful and personal works in art history.
