Alphonse Mucha, Zodiac (1896)
Alphonse Mucha, Zodiac (1896)
In 1896, Alphonse Mucha created "Zodiac," his inaugural work under contract with the printer F. Champenois. Originally designed as an in-house calendar for the company, the piece features a majestic woman adorned with elaborate jewelry, set against a halo-like disk depicting the twelve zodiac signs—a motif characteristic of Mucha's Art Nouveau style. The composition's elegance and intricate detail led to its widespread popularity, including its use by the magazine "La Plume."
