Jules Chéret (1836–1932) was a French painter and lithographer, often called the "father of the modern poster." He revolutionized poster art in the late 19th century with colorful, vibrant designs that combined fine art with commercial advertising. His works, known for depicting lively, joyful women known as "Chérettes," promoted everything from theater shows to cabarets and perfumes. Chéret's innovative use of color and dynamic composition transformed posters into an art form, influencing future generations of poster artists, including the Art Nouveau movement.
